Grains Gill

Grains Gill sweeps down towards Borrowdale and Castle Crag in summer

Grains Gill background

The path up Grains Gill is the quickest way from Borrowdale to Esk Hause and the big Lake District fells beyond. When starting from Seathwaite take the left hand fork just after crossing Stockley Bridge.

And this is the view from part way up, taken on one of many breaks I took on the unrelenting climb. It was hard work as I was weighed down with my overnight kit ready for a spot of wild camping on Great End.

Borrowdale can be seen in the distance with the distinctively shaped peak of Castle Crag beyond.
