road to wasdale head under snow-capped great gable

The road to Wasdale Head

As the winding road to Wasdale Head nears its destination it is overlooked by a ring of giant fells. Here a snow-capped Great Gable dominates the head of the valley while Kirk Fell’s lower slopes are visible to the left.

The plan on this day was to climb Pillar via the Overbeck Valley. However on reaching Dore Head I found it impossible to stand up in the gale force winds. And it looked so serene from the valley bottom.
