sunlit paved footpath lines by scots pines descending into the shade of grains valley from greenhow knott

Descending into the shade

The point where the footpath rounds Greenhow Knott marks the top of the last section of the descent from Styhead Pass to Stockley Bridge in Borrowdale.

Normally when I pass here I’m either keen to get into the fells or on tired legs and keen to keep moving so rarely stop. However, after a night wild camping on Tongue Head, it was very early and the valley of Grains was still in shadow resulting in some very attractive lighting.
