Great Knott and Bow Fell from reed lined Red Tarn on a bright autumn day under blue sky

Great Knott reflected in Red Tarn

Red Tarn lies in the grassy col between Cold Pike and Pike Of Blisco, high above Langdale. Its an unremarkable tarn, normally only useful for navigation and as a place to take a break in solitude. However on this morning there was so little wind that the surface was like glass and it was a glorious place to take a long break.

From left to right in the background are the slopes of Cold Pike, Great Knott, the last crinkle of Crinkle Crags and finally Bow Fell.
