Red Tarn lies in the grassy col between Cold Pike and Pike Of Blisco, high above Langdale. Its an unremarkable tarn, normally only useful for navigation and as a place to take a break in solitude. But on this morning there was so little wind that the surface was like glass and it was a glorious place to take a long break.
From left to right in the background are the slopes of Cold Pike, Great Knott, the last crinkle of Crinkle Crags and finally Bow Fell.
This was taken on a simply superb but ultimately painful day out in the fells and is the subject of a blog entry about a hike up Cold Pike from Wrynose Pass.
