dramatic colourful dawn skies over windermere from ice-covered summit of harrison stickle above great langdale valley

Harrison Stickle summit winter sunrise

Having set off from Rossett Bridge in the pitch black, I took the quickest route up to the summit of Harrison Stickle, the tallest of the Langdale Pikes. I had allowed extra time to make sure I got to the summit before dawn and its just as well I did as the path was coated in black ice. Without spikes I would never have made it in time.

Needless to say it was worth the early start to see this view: dawn over a distant Windermere from Harrison Stickle.
