About the Eskdale Valley

Eskdale is a quiet, wooded valley in the western Lake District, not the easiest place to get to but well worth the effort.

At the head of the valley is Great Moss, the source of the River Esk. It is in the shadow of Scafell, Bow Fell and Esk Pike, and is just about the wildest and most remote place in the Lake District fells. From here the river flows through picture postcard woodland and farm fields before reaching the sea near Ravenglass.
