old mill cottage water wheel and coomb beck waterfalls under yellow autumn beech leaves canopy

Old Mill Cottage watermill

The watermill of Old Mill Cottage near Stonethwaite has been powered by Coombe Gill for many centuries. It was mentioned in a will back in 1727 although the current wheel probably dates from about 1800.

A visit on a wet autumn day showed the mill at its finest although it did make clambering up the beck an adventure!
