ruined peat houses atop boot bank overlooking autumnal eskdale valley under blue skies with green crag in background

Peat houses on Boot Bank

A view across Eskdale from the line of old peat houses at the top of Boot Bank. As their name suggests, these buildings were used to store freshly cut peat in bygone times.

Birker Force Waterfall can be seen on the far side of Eskdale with distinctive Green Crag beyond.
