River Caldew mist at colourful sunset from Blencathra

River Caldew Valley mist from Blencathra

Sunset from the summit of Blencathra, looking north over the mist-shrouded valley of the River Caldew.

The River Caldew winds its way from the slopes of Skiddaw, through the northern fells towards Carlisle where it joins the River Eden. The Solway Firth can be seen on the horizon with the southern Scottish hills beyond.

This photograph was taken while camping at the top of Blencathra, the plan being to get some good dawn photos. Getting a decent sunset one was a bonus.
