Skiddaw from Catbells during pastel coloured dawn

Skiddaw from Catbells

Having parked in the dark at Little Town in the Newlands Valley I climbed up Catbells unsure as to what dawn was going to be like as the eastern horizon was hidden by the Maiden Moor ridge in front of me. It was only when arriving at the summit crag of Catbells that I saw there was high level cloud to the east that was going to prevent a totally clear dawn.

Although disappointed I wasn’t going to see a spectacular dawn the conditions produced this pastel-coloured photograph looking towards Skiddaw showing Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite Lake.
