snow surrounding frozen sprinkling tarn under low cloud giving whiteout wintry conditions

Sprinkling Tarn whiteout

A very wintry view from the shore of Sprinkling Tarn on Seathwaite Fell.

Part way through a very atmospheric winter’s walk in the fells, I passed Sprinkling Tarn and decided to take a detour round its shore: this was not easy at all as no one else had and there were no tracks to follow through the pristine snow. Also, with the tarn being frozen it was hard to tell where the land ended and the water started. I didn’t fancy a swim!

Ok, so there were no long distance views but the whiteout created an eerie atmosphere.
