Tarns on Haystacks summit plateau during stormy red sunset

Tarns on Haystack’s summit plateau

Two of the tarns on Haystack’s summit plateau, nestled amongst the crags and heather. Innominate Tarn is in the background while the tarn in the foreground has no name.

Haystack’s summit plateau is a wonderful place to explore as it has many nooks and crannies spread over quite a large area. This photo was taken one evening as the setting sun gave the land an unearthly appearance. Meanwhile ominous storm clouds rolled in from Borrowdale.

The tale of this night spent wild camping on Haystacks is described in a blog entry.
