Field patterns at Wasdale Head from Kirk Fell

Field patterns at Wasdale Head

The irregular field patterns at Wasdale Head have been in existance for centuries. Bounded by Wast Water on one side and the fells on the other three, farmers have made the most of the limited flat land here for generations.

This photograph was taken on the direct path up Kirk Fell. This is not a route I’d recommend but it does offer great views of the fields.
