Westmorland Cairn view of Wast Water
The impressive Westmorland Cairn on the south side of Great Gable’s summit crag offers one of the finest views in Lakeland, or so thought the two Westmorland brothers who built it in 1876.
Standing here on a still winter’s day above the cloud and below clear blue skies it was hard to disagree. This was even more remarkable given the grey and murky weather in Borrowdale a couple of hours earlier. I got plenty of use of my camera on this day out on Great and Green Gable.
