red peat tinted water flowing over rock at top of kisdon force waterfall in limestone gorge detail

Kisdon Force abstract

Kisdon Force is well worth a visit, even though it means a bit of a detour from the Pennine Way track in upper Swaledale. The well-hidden waterfall is located in a deep gorge near the village of Keld and comprises of two waterfalls as the River Swale flows over two rock shelves in the gorge.

The above photo is a detail shot of the river flowing over the smaller, upper drop. The red colour is caused by peat from the surrounding moorland.
